We started our business in July of 2022. I had been baking for several years, mostly for my family and friends, and for the occasional commission order. When I took my first order I was overwhelmed. I thought there was no way this was going to work and no way I was going to get anywhere. I would just throw some time and money at it and hope my family stopped harassing me.
Then we had our first event, Gathering on Main in Owasso. It was July and literally 105 in the shade. I melted, and my cookies melted, but I couldn't stop smiling. I spoke to so many amazing people that night. I loved connecting with the community as a whole and finding others like me who just want good baked foods that are gluten-free. I'll admit it was addicting, so I signed us up for another event and another, and before I knew it we had events every weekend.
The logistics of working my 9-5, coming home to be a mom, and wife, and helping maintain our household was already a second full-time job, then I added in prepping for the events on the weekend lol. I couldn't have done it without my husband Aaron or daughter Katherine. They pulled together to help me label, or load dishes, or sometimes just make sure I remembered to eat dinner.
As we did more events and I started connecting with more people I was surprised by how many others like me were out there. I knew I wasn't alone by any means, but I was still surprised. I remember an event in Collinsville where a man had just been told to avoid gluten. He didn't have Celiac or really a gluten intolerance, but his doctor thought it best he avoid it for health reasons. He was craving sweets and made comment about having to watch his wife eat dessert. (We've all been there.) When he found out that everything in our booth was gluten-free, he almost cried. I almost cried at his happiness. And my addiction was cemented.
September sprang up out of nowhere. We had done several small events and were starting to see repeat customers. A friend mentioned Farm Hippie in Collinsville. Again, I thought I can look but I doubt it will go far. We went into the store and instantly fell in love with the environment. There are so many amazing products there, produced by amazing people. While checking out I spoke to Carrie Beth and she told us to apply. The rest is history. We have been there as a vendor for 3 months, have expanded our shelving, and love every moment of it.
We survived the 3 day Rogers County Fair and definitely look forward to 2023, so that we can do it again. November rolled around, it started getting cold outside, and events started to wind down. I wanted a way to continue to connect with people, so I reached out to Needful Things Market here in Owasso. I was as if it were meant to be. A vendor had recently left and they had a booth. We went in the next day and signed the contract for booth #2050 and you have all been very supportive!
The holidays snuck up on us, and we were approved to be a vendor for the Winter Rogers County Farmers Market. We're excited to have this new opportunity for December thru March.
As December winds down I start looking toward 2023. We will continue to stock Farm Hippie in Collinsville and Needful Things Market in Owasso. We will be at the Rogers County Farmers Market on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of December thru March and plan to apply for both the Owasso and Rogers County Farmers Markets that start up in May and run until October. There will be another big surprise coming in 2023, but more on that later.
To close up this ridiculously long post lol, I just want to say thank you. Thank you to Aaron and Katherine, without them I couldn't do what I do. Thank you to my family and friends for supporting my dream. And of course, thank you to everyone who spoke with me, shared your stories, bought my products, and took the time to come engage with us. I do this for you.
I wish you all the best this holiday season and look forward to what 2023 has in store!
